The internet wasn’t as prevalent when I was a student, but today you can get a lot of hints from it. You can google, say “Oneonta nail salons” and if you’re lucky, some salons will come up and you can check them out.

But, fortunately there is a solution. There are directories on the internet that “scrape” the internet for contents, and there are a lot of them that search for local businesses. The online Yellow Pages is an example. Or Merchant Circle. These directories also allow people to make comments, ratings and recommendations about local businesses.

So when searching for information on local nail salons in a town that is new to you, you can really trust sites like those more than a site that was put up by the owner of the salon.

If you don’t see a lot of listings for nail salons when you search with a search engine like Google, you can go straight to the directories themselves
